A Dog is for Life

Did you know that Dogs Trust receives a telephone call every six minutes from people looking to give up their dog? In today’s blog, and with Christmas fast approaching, we want to take the opportunity to reiterate the importance of the message: ‘a dog is for life not just for Christmas’.

Indeed, so famous and so far-reaching is the slogan that it seems to have populated the very vernacular of this country – and quite rightly so.

Whilst owning a dog, or any other pet for that matter, is a life enriching experience, it is one that should not be taken lightly or on impulse. Owning a pet, a dog in particular, is a commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of another living creature and one that requires the owner to change and adapt to having a new member of the household.

Whilst the romanticised image of a puppy bounding in on Christmas morning whilst presents are being unwrapped is a heartwarming one, it also should be decided many months in advance. Essentially, the decision to give a pet should be one taken by the whole family, one where the demands of looking after the animal are thoroughly understood and taken into account.

Dogs Trust has useful advice on how to properly get a dog, detailing how to research breeders, how to choose a reputable breeder and what to do when you first get your puppy.

What’s more, Dogs Trust also offers advice on how to foster a dog and offers a donation service which can really impact and benefit the lives of our four-legged friends and may be an alternative to giving a dog as a gift at Christmas.

The VCMS would like to wish all of our followers and clients a very merry Christmas. We will be closed from 6pm on the 20th of December and re-open at 8am on the 2nd January 2020.

Should you wish to contact our teams, please fill in an online complaint form and we will reply upon our return.
